The Senate is reversing a Biden-era policy that allowed California to phase out gas-powered cars. Republican Senator Tony Strickland says California is not prepared to have 15-million electric cars on the road by 2035.
Strickland says many Californians can’t afford pricey electric vehicles and consumers need options. The reversal frees automakers from pursuing an electric-only future in California and eleven other states.
Governor Newsom calls the Senate’s move shameful. He says this allows polluters to pollute more and calls it a win for China.
President Trump is expected to sign the measure.
